An e-marriage is a marriage that is officiated by means of an online communication tool, so the couple can be at one site with the officiator at another.

E-marriages have also been used as a way around illegal same-sex marriages in the United States. The couple obtains their marriage license from a state where same-sex marriages are legal, then travels back to their state for the ceremony, using an online communication tool, such as Skype, to have someone officiate their marriage.
