A double-wall container used to store liquified gases such as liquid oxygen or liquid nitrogen. A vacuum bottle is made of thin stainless steel sheet, formed into a double-walled container. All air is pumped out of the space between the two walls, leaving a vacuum.
The walls are too thin to transfer much heat into the bottle by conduction, and almost no heat passes across the vacuum. A vacuum bottle is a form of Dewar flask.

A drain plug in the sump of either a reciprocating engine or a gas turbine engine. Two small permanent magnets built into the drain plug attract and hold ferrous metal chips or shavings that may be in the lubricating oil. Metal on the drain plug is an indication of internal engine failure.
Some magnetic drain plugs in gas turbine engines have the two magnets connected into an electrical warning system. When bits of metal short across them, a circuit is completed, and a warning light is turned on to show that metal particles are loose in the engine.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing instrument made in the shape of a pair of dividers. One leg has a sharp point that forms the center of a circle or arc, and the other leg holds a pencil or a piece of pencil lead that marks the circumference of the circle or the arc.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing made in such a way that it has no visual perspective. Equal distances on the object are equal distances on the drawing.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing showing all of the parts spread out to show their relative location in the component.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing that contains enough information to allow a component to be fabricated.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing used to show the way subassemblies are put together to make a complete assembly. A bill of materials included with an installation drawing gives the name and part number of all the components used to connect the subassemblies. Dimensions are not normally given on an assembly drawing, but where dimensions are needed, they are shown on the detail drawings for the parts listed in the installation drawing.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing which shows the inside construction or contents of an object, as well as the outside of the object. A part of the outside of the object is cut away to show the inside.
Industry:Aviation
A drawing which uses conventional symbols to show the way the components in an electrical system or fluid power system are connected. Circuit diagrams do not show the physical relationship of the components, but the flow of electrons or fluid can be traced by following the circuit diagram.
