A patented graduated series of cloth-backed cushioned sheets which contain abrasive crystals. Micro-Mesh is used for polishing and restoring transparency to acrylic plastic windows and windshields.
Industry:Aviation
A patented maintenance tool used to locate the position of the piston in the cylinder of a reciprocating engine. The body of the Time-Rite indicator screws into a spark plug hole and, as the piston moves up in the cylinder, it contacts the indicator arm. A pointer and a scale on the indicator show the number of degrees of crankshaft rotation before top center at which the piston is located.
Industry:Aviation
A patented nylon material that is used to make the honeycomb core for certain types of aircraft structural sandwich-type materials. Nomex is also used to make fire-resistant fabrics.
Industry:Aviation
A patented propeller that has counterweights around the blade shanks and the blades angled back from the hub to increase the effects of aerodynamic and centrifugal twisting forces.
This propeller automatically maintains a relatively constant RPM for any throttle setting.
Industry:Aviation
A patented spot-type fire detection system installed in an aircraft. This system uses individual thermal switches connected between two insulated conductors. An open circuit in either of the two conductors will not prevent the system from detecting a fire, but it will keep it from indicating good when the test switch is closed.
Industry:Aviation
A patented spring-type fastener used to hold metal sheets until they can be permanently riveted together. A special pair of Cleco pliers pulls the spreader from between the jaws of a Cleco fastener so the jaws will pull together enough for them to pass through the rivet holes drilled in the metal.
When the fastener is installed, the pliers release the spreader, which forces the jaws out against the metal and pulls the sheets tightly together.
Industry:Aviation
A patented synthetic aramid fiber noted for its flexibility and light weight. It is to a great extent replacing fiberglass as a reinforcing fabric for composite aircraft construction.
Industry:Aviation
A patented type of pliers in which the jaws can be locked together by the over-center compound action of a toggle. A screw in one handle of the pliers allows the basic size of the jaw opening to be adjusted, and when the handles are squeezed together, the jaws lock tightly on the object between them. Vise-grip pliers are made with many different types and shapes of jaws for many different uses.
Industry:Aviation
A patented wire clip used to attach aircraft fabric to the wing ribs. A Martin clip is long piece of spring steel wire with a series of hooks bent into it at each location the fabric should be attached to the rib cap strip. The hooks are pressed through small slits in the reinforcing tape and the fabric and through elongated holes in the rib cap strips. The hooks lock the clip in the holes and pull the fabric tight against the cap strip.
The use of Martin clips rather than rib stitching saves a tremendous amount of time when covering an aircraft surface.
Industry:Aviation
A patented, high-strength structural fastener used where strength requirements are high. The Jo-bolt is passed through a close-tolerance hole, and a sleeve is pulled up over its tapered shank to form a blind head inside the structure.
