Leveling in which only the reading at the line of sight through the central line of the three horizontal lines on the reticle is taken. For precise work, readings are taken along the line of sight through all three horizontal lines and the average of the three readings taken. The center wire method is faster than the three wire method but does not provide as many checks of the readings.
