The University of St Andrews

The University of St Andrews is a research university located in St Andrews, Fyfe, Scotland.

It was founded between the years of 1410 to 1413, after a papal bull by Avignon Antipope Benedict XIII formally recognized a school formed by a group of Augustinian clergy.

This established the oldest university in Scotland and the third oldest in the English speaking world.

These days the university counts around 7700 students, 30% of which stem from an international background. Together with the around 1300 staff members, the university corpus represents about one third of the town's population during term time.

The University of St Andrews is renowned for its quality of teaching and research and is regarded as the fourth best teaching facility in the United Kingdom and within the top 100 universities worldwide.

The university's students are known to take pride in preserving the many traditions of student life in St Andrews, such as the may dip, academic parents and academic gowns.
